What is Table Tennis?

Table Tennis, often called ping pong, is one of the fastest racket sports in the world. Played indoors on a small table divided by a net, it emphasizes quick reflexes, precision, strategy, and endurance. Athletes compete in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, showcasing agility and sharp hand-eye coordination.

History in the Olympics

Table Tennis became an official Olympic sport at the 1988 Seoul Games. Since then, it has grown in popularity and is now one of the most competitive sports, particularly dominated by Asian and European athletes. Women’s and men’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles are contested, offering equal opportunities across all categories.

While not as heavily recruited as sports like Track & Field or Wrestling, Table Tennis is recognized in universities worldwide, with opportunities for club competition, scholarships, and international representation.
