Weightlifting is an Olympic sport that tests pure strength, power, and technique. Athletes compete by lifting a loaded barbell in two distinct movements: the snatch and the clean & jerk. Beyond raw strength, the sport requires speed, coordination, balance, and mental focus, making it one of the most complete tests of athletic ability.
Weightlifting was included in the very first modern Olympic Games in 1896 and has remained a central sport ever since. Women’s weightlifting was added in 2000 (Sydney Games), significantly expanding opportunities for female athletes on the global stage.
At Empower, weightlifting will be an essential part of both competitive sport and athletic development. Girls will train under expert coaches to master technique, build explosive power, and enhance overall athletic performance. In addition to Olympic competition, weightlifting supports other sports by improving strength, agility, and injury prevention.
Weightlifting is a growing sport at the collegiate level, with U.S. universities such as Louisiana State University, the University of Georgia, and Northern Michigan University supporting competitive programs. Empower athletes will also have opportunities to represent Pakistan in Asian Championships, World Championships, and the Olympic Games, showcasing their strength and resilience on the world stage.
