Badminton is a high-speed racquet sport that emphasizes agility, reflexes, and precision. Played with a shuttlecock, the game can be contested in singles (one player per side) or doubles (two players per side). The objective is to strike the shuttlecock over the net and land it in the opponent’s court, using a combination of speed, strategy, and skill.
Badminton made its Olympic debut as a demonstration sport in 1972 and was later included as an official medal sport at the 1992 Barcelona Games. Both men’s and women’s singles and doubles were part of the initial program, with mixed doubles added in 1996 at the Atlanta Games. Since then, badminton has become one of the most followed Olympic sports, especially in Asia and Europe.
