Taekwondo is a Korean martial art and Olympic sport known for its dynamic kicks, agility, and fast-paced sparring. The name translates to “the way of the foot and the fist,” highlighting its emphasis on powerful leg techniques alongside disciplined hand strikes.
Taekwondo was first included as a demonstration sport at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and became an official medal sport in 2000. Women’s divisions have been part of the competition since its debut.
At Empower, Taekwondo will build not only strength and agility but also leadership and confidence. Athletes will be guided by experienced coaches to sharpen both competition skills and life values such as respect and perseverance.
Taekwondo athletes often pursue scholarships at universities such as Columbia, Cornell, Stanford, and UCLA, which have strong martial arts and combat sports programs. This pathway also prepares athletes for global competitions including World Championships and the Olympics.
