What is Judo?

Judo is a Japanese martial art and Olympic sport that focuses on throws, holds, and submissions rather than strikes. Meaning “the gentle way,” Judo emphasizes using an opponent’s strength and momentum against them. It builds physical conditioning, balance, and mental discipline, while fostering respect and humility.

History in the Olympics

Judo was introduced to the Olympic Games in 1964 in Tokyo. Women’s Judo was added in 1992, and since then, female judokas from around the world have achieved recognition for their strength and skill.
